Purpose and perspective of risk assessment in planning a financial statement audit. Risk assessment standards and other guidance. Understanding the entity to be audited and its environment, and assessing risks. Documenting decisions necessary to prepare an audit program. Understanding internal control and determining audit procedures. Entity-level controls and activity-level controls. Decisions and judgments proper of the planning process.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
   a. Describe the purpose and process of risk assessment.
   b. Explain how risk assessment procedures affect the design and performance of audit procedures.
   c. Describe how an auditor obtains an understanding of internal control.
   d. Describe key decisions in the audit planning process.
